Billion 740x series VoIP setup guide for engin (7404VGP, 7404VGO, 7401VGP, 7410VP. 7401VGO)

Overview

Before you configure your Billion VoIP modem to engin, we suggest you check that you have the latest firmware :
Firmware Update URL
Step 1: Login
  1. To login to the administration section open your web browser and type the following address: http://192.168.1.254
  2. For the Username section enter in: admin In the Password section enter in: admin
  3. You should now be logged into your Billion VoIP modem / router.
Step 2: Configuration Menu
  1. First, click on the Configuration option on the side menu:
  2. Then, click on the "VOIP" option on the menu which appears underneath it:
  3. Then click on the "General Settings" option on the menu which appears next:

Step 3: General settings menu
  1. Now that you have clicked on "General Settings" you should be faced with a menu which looks something like this:
  2. This menu is where you configure the Engin general settings. Please make sure you have the following settings for your device: (Note: We are only setting up phone port 1, you can duplicate the settings for phone port 2).
  3. Make sure to click on the "Apply" button down the bottom.
  4. Make sure to also click the "Save Config" button after clicking the Apply button
  • SIP: Enable
  • RTP Port: 16384
  • Region: AUS
  • Voice QOS, DSCP Marking: Best Effort
  • Registrar Address (Or Hostname): byo.engin.com.au
  • Registrar Port: 5060
  • Expire: 900
  • User Domain / Realm: byo.engin.com.au
  • Outbound Proxy Address: syd.byo.engin.com.au
  • Outbound Proxy Port: 5060

Step 4: General Settings Advanced
  1. Go to Advanced
  2. Change voice frame size to 10ms
  3. Click Apply
Step 5: Your engin SIP settings
  1. Now, you will need to setup the actual Engin account and password in the device. To do this we need to go to the "Phone Port" menu as shown below:
  2. Once you click on the phone port option you should see a menu like this:
Step 6: VoIP account
Fill in the settings in the menu as follows:
  • Phone Number: (028004xxxx)
  • Authentication Username:  (028004xxxx)
  • Authentication Password: Your engin password (i.e: GawD273)
  • Confirm Password: Your engin password (i.e: GawD273)
  • Display Name: Enter in your name here. E.g. "engin"
Codec 's
  • Priority 1: G.729
  • Priority 2: PCMA (G.711 A-Law)
  • Priority 3: PCMU (G.711 U-Law)
* The rest of the fields can be left blank, these only control speeddial options for your unit if required.
  1. Click on the "Apply" button down the bottom of the page.
  2. Click on the "Save Config" button on the bottom of the page.
Step 7: Save and apply settings
  1. Your new router is now setup for use with Engin VOIP.
  2. Simply click on the "Restart" button at the bottom of the menu and after 60 seconds when the router reboots you should be able to start using your Engin telephone by plugging a normal handset into the "Line 1" port at the back of your router.



 
Step 8: Other Tips
  1. Reducing the RTP payload Type;  You can also reduce the sip packet period from 30ms to 10ms to improve quality further.
    • Go to start > run
    • type: telnet 192.168.1.254
    • enter the username: admin and password: admin
    • when you are in admin, type voip set sip packetperiod 10<hit enter>
    • type: system config save<hit enter>
    • type: exit
  2. If you have a corrupt dial plan in your Billion VoIP router, follow these instructions to fix the problem
    • Click Start Menu and then Run
    • type: telnet 192.168.1.254 <hit enter>
    • type: Admin <hit enter>
    • type: Admin <hit enter>
    • type: voip endpoint 1 set digitmap '(x.T) +x.T' <hit enter>
    • type: system config save <hit enter>
