Overview

By default, Vista doesn't include the Telnet client, which is a text-based application for communicating with remote systems. You can install it by following these steps:

Step 1: Program and Features
  1. Go to Start > Control Panel
  2. Open the Programs and Features Control Panel > Click Classical View

Step 2: Accessing Windows Features
  1. Click Turn Windows features on or off
  2. This will bring up the telnet option which needs to be enabled

Step 3: Enabling Telnet
  1. Click Turn Windows features on or off
  2. Enable Telnet Server
  3. Enable Telnet Client
  4. Click OK
